As official telecommunications partner for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Verizon has introduced Visible eSIM Travel Plus passes for fans who will be visiting North America.
International travelers increasingly expect instant, digital-first connectivity options. The World Cup represents a significant opportunity for operators to capture short-term prepaid demand and strengthen brand visibility with global visitors.
UX Connect previously undertook a benchmark of the purchase journey from 11 eSIM providers in the US from the perspective of international visitors (see report Prepaid Mobile Plans: Best Practices to Win Visitors Traveling to the US for the 2026 FIFA World Cup), and came up with a series of best practices related to discoverability, plan information, purchasing process and installation and activation.
As a follow-up, UX Connect undertook a benchmark of the Visible eSIM Travel Plus passes. Overall, the purchase journey of Visible’s World Cup passes is good, though there is some scope for improvement. Some of the key report findings include:
- Discoverability of the plans could limit adoption despite Verizon’s official FIFA partnership
- Different pass durations should cover all lengths of fan visits, while passes include everything fans should require from a travel eSIM
- The purchase process is straightforward for international visitors
- Installing the eSIM via QR code is relatively easy to do
- Allowing the user to choose when they want to activate the plan is a plus, but may not initially be clear
