At its Unpacked event in July 2026, Samsung announced their latest foldable devices, including the new Galaxy Z Fold8 – its first wide foldable device. The Z Fold8 features a ‘passport’ style form factor. The 7.6-inch main display features a 4:3 aspect ratio, that will provide a more natural experience for consuming content than the 1:1.1 aspect ratio of the Z Fold8 Ultra. The cover display is wider than previous Samsung foldables, which will make typing on it easier, meaning the user will be able to use it in a closed state for quick tasks. However, the device is also shorter and features a 10:16 aspect ratio. This could lead to some apps appearing squashed or distorted if they do not adapt to the less common screen size. It may also lead to increased scrolling as pages will be shorter.
